Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data BillInsight collects, how it is used, which service providers process it, how long it is kept, and how you can delete it. It applies to billinsight.ca and the BillInsight iOS app.
Information We Collect And Why
We process the following data to provide the service: account information (email address, name if provided, authentication identifiers); uploaded bill files and the text extracted from them; bill metadata and AI analysis results; bank account and transaction data if you connect a bank; billing and subscription status; support messages; and usage analytics, diagnostics, and cookie or session information.
Each category is used only to operate BillInsight: reading and explaining your bills, detecting suspicious charges, tracking due dates, finding savings, verifying paid access, fixing errors, and improving the product. We do not sell your personal data.
AI Processing Of Your Bills
When you upload a bill or use bill analysis and chat, the content of that bill is processed by third-party AI and OCR providers acting on our behalf: OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google (AI analysis and chat), and Google Cloud Vision and Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence (text extraction). This processing is what powers BillInsight's core features, and it happens only for documents you choose to upload or analyze.
These providers process your bill content to return results to you; we do not permit them to use it to train their models under our service agreements. AI outputs may contain errors and should be independently verified.
Service Providers We Share Data With
We share data only with service providers needed to run BillInsight: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (payments), Apple (App Store purchases on iOS), Plaid (bank connections you authorize), OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google (AI processing), Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure (OCR), PostHog (product analytics), and Sentry (error monitoring).
Each provider receives only the data necessary for its function and is required, under its terms with us, to protect your data to at least the same standard described in this policy. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
Data Retention And Deletion
Guest trial data expires automatically: guest sessions last 24 hours, and guest uploads are removed after the trial expires unless you create a permanent account, which keeps your saved bills.
Permanent account data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen in the iOS app or from account settings on billinsight.ca; deletion removes your account, bills, extracted data, analyses, and chat history from our systems. Backup copies and provider logs are purged on their standard cycles thereafter.
Billing, Analytics, And Cookies
Stripe processes web subscription payments and Apple processes iOS in-app purchases; BillInsight does not store full payment card details. We use authentication cookies, preference cookies, and session tracking to operate the website, and PostHog analytics events to understand product usage. The iOS app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Global Processing Notice
BillInsight is operated from Canada and uses service providers that may process data in other countries, including the United States. Information may therefore be processed in countries different from the country where you live, protected by the safeguards described in this policy.
Your Rights And Requests
You may request access to your data, correction, deletion, or withdrawal of consent at any time by using the in-app deletion tools or by contacting support@billinsight.ca. We review and respond to every request. No online service can promise perfect security, but bill files are stored privately, transferred over encrypted connections, and never displayed publicly.
